Shapes and Sizes

Just as memorials come in a variety of different colors, they also come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The style and shape you select will be determined by your preference, budget and in many cases, by the requirements at your particular cemetery.

Upright headstones are the preferred style of memorial today. They can be seen and appreciated from a distance, offer the most design flexibility and represent the best value in terms of size and visibility provided for the size of your memorial investment.

Both the front and back surface can be personalized. Popular shapes include rectangles, hearts, tear drops and diamonds. The options are limitless.

Flat or lawn level markers, also referred to as grass markers, are as their name implies...usually set flush with the ground.

They are required by many cemeteries and are usually 4 inches thick, 35 to 54 inches in length and 12 to 14 inches wide.

This style of memorial because popular in the 30’s and 40’s with the idea of reducing cemetery maintenance. In many cases, this has proven not to be the case and many of these cemeteries are now allowing upright monuments. While the surface area on flat markers is limited, our skilled Memorialists can utilize the space efficiently to create distinctive, personalized memorials.

Slant markers are midway in height between a beveled marker and the upright style. They can be set with or without a base and like an upright, have a front and back surface for personalization.

Beveled or raised markers, sometimes referred to as hickey markers, normally set on top of the ground. They are slightly higher in the back than in the front, giving a slight slant to the top of the stone. In cemeteries where they are permitted, they are a favorable alternative to the flat marker because they can be seen from a distance. If the front surface has a smooth finish, it can be lettered and identified from a distance.
